Oak Frame House

Ladywood Lodge was manufactured as a full oak-framed newbuild following the demolition of the existing property.

The client was introduced to Enville Oak through their architect, with detailed plans already in place for a bespoke oak-framed extension.

From the outset, the oak frame was intended to be a striking structural feature, shaping both the character of the building and the layout of the internal spaces.

Bespoke Detailing

With the architectural drawings already in place before initial contact, the client visited Enville Oak to finalise the oak frame specification. This stage focused on refining proportions, jointing, and section sizes to suit both the architect's design and structural requirements.

Extra-large section timbers were specified for the trusses, creating a strong visual presence while reinforcing the traditional character.

Structural Oak Frame

The oak frame was manufactured using traditional methods, with exposed trusses that keep the structure visible throughout the main living areas and clearly show the scale and presence of the oak timbers.

Glazed Gable End

A large glazed gable end was integrated into the structure, allowing natural light to flood the interior while keeping the oak frame integrated into the overall design.

Coordination with Groundworks and Glazing Teams

Enville Oak worked closely with the groundworkers to ensure foundations and setting-out aligned precisely with the oak frame. Early coordination helped the build progress smoothly once installation began.

Liaison with the glazing specialists was particularly important around the glazed gable end and other window openings, with sequencing and tolerances coordinated to ensure a clean, accurate fit.

Internal and External Finishes

Internally, the oak frame is left exposed in key areas, highlighting the craftsmanship and scale of the structure. Set against a clean, modern interior, the oak beams introduce warmth, character, and a sense of traditional charm without overwhelming the contemporary design.

The Completed Newbuild

Every element of the oak frame was tailored to suit the client’s brief and the architect’s vision, resulting in a high-spec newbuild that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern living.
