We are based in the West Midlands; however, we supply and build frames throughout the uk. It really depends on the size and nature of your oak framed project, as to whether it lends itself to a full build package or a supply only option, we are more than happy to work with a local carpenter or tradesmen if it is more cost effective for your project.

It’s always best to get in touch and discuss this with us at an early stage, as we can advise you accordingly.

We refer to our oak frames as traditional because of the framing method we use to build them, all our frames are joined using the traditional mortise and tenon and secured using solid kiln dried oak dowels, this is a traditional framing method that has been used for 100s of years.

Our oak specialists come with a wealth of knowledge and experience, once on site they can asses and advise you on your project. Based on your needs, your budget and the practicality of your proposed design they can direct you accordingly. Being on site enables our specialists to identify potential build problems such as access or existing buildings/pipework/wiring. They then work to resolve these issues.

Obviously, the time it takes relates to the size of your proposed project. However, all our frames are manufactured and assembled in the workshop beforehand. They are then taken apart and delivered to site where our expert fitters will erect them and secure them with fixings and oak peg dowels. Erecting our frames on site is the quickest part of the process and we are able to construct large oak frame structures in a matter of days.

We have extensive experience in designing and building a wide variety of oak framed buildings. The buildings we have made range from gazebos, garages and garden rooms to houses, pool houses and all manner of outdoor structures.

We would recommend talking to your local Planning authority for initial advice. The Factors that are taken into consideration are the size and location of the existing building and if your property is listed, in a Conservation Area, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, National Park or the Broads.

Oak cladding is a much more durable timber than softwood. It has the advantage that no further maintenance will usually be required, however it is the costlier option and there is a good amount of “settling or twisting” that comes with all oak products as it is the nature of the timber and this needs to be taken into account.

Softwood is already treated in larch as it needs protection from the elements. This is a more cost-effective choice and has less movement.

We will be able to give you a rough ball park figure on initial inquiry, however an oak frames size, dimensions, detailing and finish as well as grade all have a significant influence on the price. Therefore, we always advise you talk to one of our oak frame specialists about your specific requirements so you can get a more accurate price.

We are predominantly an oak frame manufacturer so our focus and area of specialty is in the supply and fit of the oak frames, however we can put you in touch with a range of recommended tradesmen or we can work with your own preferred builder, who we can liaise with throughout the project to give you a harmonious build or we can supply you with an oak frame kit.

Most hardwoods such as oak are naturally weather resistant. Left untreated your oak frame will weather to a nice silver colour in around a year, it is not necessary to treat oak and it will not affect its lifespan. If however you want to change the appearance or colour of the oak there are varnishes and oils available to achieve your desired result.
